What Pitchers Must Avoid While Holding Runners with Jerry Weinstein – Colorado Rockies

July 27, 2021 • By I-70 Baseball Coaches Clinic

Watch as Coach discusses what pitchers must try and avoid while holding runners on 1st base. The first example is the 'head bob'. The head has to come up to pitch which allows the hitter and baserunner to read the body language and tempo. The 'load and go' allows the baserunner to read the pitcher's rear end and get a good jump. When pitchers take a deep breath, the runner can see the shoulder going up and down, allowing them to time the delivery. The 'leaner' is a quick movement to the plate, but the runner can focus on the hips and start to go before the pitcher's foot comes up.
